Well, it’s tick time again, although many say they are around all year. Luckily, we have found a solution we would like to share that came from Larry Master, PhD and resident naturalist. Choose the pants, socks, and shoes that you wear when walking off pavement and spray liberally outdoors with a Permethrin product like Sawyer’s Premium Insect Repellent (0.5% permethrin) for clothing and gear. You can get this on Amazon and in sports stores. In a couple of hours, it’s dry and you are good to go and it withstands six washings or six weeks. Permethrin in much higher doses and when wet is reportedly lethal to cats and fish so spray your clothes away from those critters. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s directions. Larry and countless others who have followed this advice for many years report never having ticks on them despite living in tick country!
