Greyledge Preserve

Greyledge Preserve – The newly expanded Greyledge Preserve is located on the side of Sedgwick Mountain on Johnson Road and comprises 265 acres of scenic woodlands donated by CCT board member Ed Greene and his wife Dinny. It is part of a large block of continuous forest that also includes CCT’s adjoining Nancy Nauts Dobbs Preserve and Red Mountain Preserve and the Mohawk State Forest. The Mohawk Trail was recently rerouted to run through the Greyledge Preserve, where it includes a scenic side trail along a ravine and seasonal cascades on the headwaters of the Hollenback River. Parties with two cars can arrange an excellent 2.5 mile hike over Red Mountain by leaving a car in the parking lot on Route 43 across from the northern end of Johnson Road and then driving back to the Mohawk State Forest parking lot on Route 4. From there, head north on the Mohawk Trail from the entrance across Route 4. It is also possible to do a loop by starting up the Mohawk Trail from Johnson Road, turning right on the Red Mountain Trail, and returning to the starting point along Johnson Road.

Parking – Parking is available at the northern intersection of Route 43 and Johnson Road.

Level of Difficulty – Moderate, but with numerous wet areas and rocky, uneven terrain.
Trail Length: To and around Cascade Loop Trail and return to Johnson Road, 0.7 miles.
